Local Business Spotlight: Bon Bon's Candy House

Ever wondered what it would be like to own your own candy store?  To be like Willy Wonka...minus the chocolate river and the oompa loompas.   We caught up with Springfield’s own Willy Wonka, Bonnie, owner and operator of Bon Bon’s Candy House and asked her ONLY the most important questions about owning a candy store!

The Candy House has been in Springfield since 2002.  They originally opened as Richardson’s Candy House on South Campbell and was originally owned by Bonnie’s parents BUT in 2015 Bonnie and her husband, Adam purchased the Springfield location and changed the name to Bon Bon’s Candy House. 

What is your favorite candy to make? 

My favorite candy to make is chocolate covered Oreos. I love the different color sprinkles and all the fun seasonal icing toppers that we get to put on them. They are adorable in gift baskets and everyone loves them! 

 What is your favorite sweet to eat?

It depends on what day it is! I am a huge fan of Peanut Butter Smoothie – it is creamy peanut butter covered in milk chocolate. 

What are Bon Bon’s most popular items? 

Our most popular items are English Toffee and Sea Salt Caramels. Milk Chocolate Malt Balls and Chocolate Covered Gummi Bears have recently become very popular and are selling out regularly! I think there is something addictive about them that keeps people coming back for them.  

What do you love most about running a candy store?

My favorite part of Bon Bon’s are the repeat customers. They fall in love with their favorite candies and keep coming back for more. They become our friends, and we are so happy when they come in and we get to visit with them. 

How many strawberries do you dip leading up to Valentine’s Day? 

We dip OVER 500 dozen Chocolate Dipped Strawberries over a three day period for Valentine’s Day. Even more crazy...for the Christmas season, we sell OVER 1,500 pounds of English Toffee!

So what’s next for Bon Bon’s? They are in full swing getting ready for Easter! It’s such a fun holiday, with all the milk, dark, and white chocolate bunnies, bright colored candies, and basket stuffers. Mother’s Day is right around the corner as well, and Bon Bon’s will be offering Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and Caramel Apples for May 7th & 8th.  So don’t miss out!
